WestJet airlines scraps reservation system

CALGARY, Alberta (Reuters) - WestJet Airlines Ltd. has scrapped efforts to salvage a contract with Travelport LLC to develop an electronic reservation system and will take a non-cash write-down of C$31.9 million ($30.1 million), WestJet said on Thursday.

CHICAGO — United Airlines is flying high again — especially overseas.

United parent UAL Corp. reported its most profitable quarter in seven years yesterday, a $274 million second-quarter profit that reflected increased capacity on international routes as well as fuller U.S. flights and lower costs.

China to start daily flights to India

In view of increasing tourist exchange between China and India, Air China on Friday said it will start operating daily flights between Beijing and New Delhi starting October 31. Presently it has only four flights a week between the two cities.

The state flag carrier will be joined by another international carrier, China Southern, which is expected to start three flights a week to Delhi from Guangzhou (erstwhile Canton). Guangzhou, home to an over 3500-strong Indian community, is a throbbing business hub in south China.
