MAXjet Airways, the award-winning low-fare all Business Class airline, has applied on July 16, 2007 for U.S. authority to operate nonstop passenger service between Shanghai, China and Seattle/Tacoma International Airport, with continuing same-plane service to Los Angeles. SAN FRANCISCO—Maverick airline Virgin America plans to begin selling tickets Thursday, giving travelers their first chance to book a trip on planes equipped to pamper passengers even when they aren't flying first-class.
The airline's inaugural flights are scheduled to take off Aug. 8 from Los Angeles and New York's John F. SINGAPORE: Low-fare Tiger Airways launched Thursday four new flights linking the south Indian cities of Kochi and Chennai to its Australian destinations of Darwin and Perth.

Executives from Orlando-based AirTran Holdings sat down with Midwest Air Group's board of directors Monday in a two-hour meeting that could signal a step toward a merger between the two airlines.
